It’s not for the money, that’s certain.
AviationVoices.com (and its companion, AviationTraining.AI) is one way I can give back to the industry to which I’ve devoted most of my career, aviation communications.
I’ve spent more than 40 years in aviation, starting with the granddaddy of flight simulation, Singer-Link. The advances in technology continue to fascinate me. The people who create those advances inspire me.
I am, at my core, a writer. I love to learn about something new and chase down all the information I can find on the topic. Talk with experts. Try to make sense of what it means for readers.
The articles and commentaries we share each week in the AviationVoices.com and AviationTraining.AI eNewsletters represent the stories I might like to research and write. But, for the most part, other very capable writers are already doing that. So, respectfully, we share their stories with our readers (giving full byline credit and providing direct links) to amplify their voices.
My partner, D-L Nelson, and I scour the world’s news and opinion sources, searching for information that could be useful to our audience of commercial aviation safety and training professionals. You might say we’re a human Google/ ChatGPT but with years of specialized, nuanced knowledge that the algorithms haven’t figured out yet.
There is an AI element. We typically share 20-25 links per newsletter, but the format is limited to 15 per reader. So each reader’s newsletter has a different mix – based on your personal preferences. (Most links are also posted on the Rick’s Clicks page of the website – https://aviationvoices.com/ricks-clicks/ in case you missed something.)
We try to avoid links which run into a paywall or sites which clutter your experience with lots of annoying pop-ups.
The formula must be working because we regularly get a newsletter open rate of 50-60% (when 20% is considered very good).
We know that it’s a challenge for readers to keep track of the myriad things going on in the industry. And sort what’s important from the press release and social media noise. So we do the relevant tracking for you.
We reach over 2,000 aviation professionals each week with the newsletters, and we have room for a few more within our Rasa.io distribution contract (who are fantastic) if you’d like to subscribe – https://pages.rasa.io/signup/933d8ec6-cf2c-61e1-04d8-1845d0edfe3c?utm_source=signup. Did I mention the subscription is free?
Yes, I still write my own material – selected subjects of high interest, opinions on hot topics for our websites and for publishers whom I respect. Even a book: The Robot in the Simulator: Artificial Intelligence in Aviation Training – https://aviationvoices.com/shop/. Now available in PDF.
I also consult on communications, especially for innovative startups who are breaking traditional barriers to create aviation’s future.
Let’s continue the conversation.
